Coco Chanel Igor Stravinsky lacks the fire that must have been The apparent trend has been to slice off ever smaller bits air max online of the designer s life for observation. "Coco Before Chanel" examined how the urchin became the icon. The current film documents her affair with another genius. But it s merely an anecdote, drawn out to feature length. The film begins in 1913, with the riots attending the Paris premiere of Stravinsky s "The Rite of Spring" and the newly established Chanel watching intently from the audience. Flash forward seven years, with Stravinsky and his large family now refugees from the Revolution and the now well established Chanel throwing open her house to them. And, soon after, her arms to the maestro. It s not surprising that this film about geniuses of modern design and music is filled with gorgeous design and music. Chanel s house is full of clean black and white lines, as precise, simple and elegant as one of her signature suits. The soundtrack throbs with Stravinsky s emotional rhythms and anguished, often discordant melodies. But where are the people who made them? Chanel, as played by Anna Mouglalis, is merely a humorless and rather selfish woman determined to get what, or who, she wants true to her own personality, perhaps, but only given sense, and sympathy, if we know what her childhood was like. And nike air max griffey Stravinsky, as played by Mads Mikkelsen, is never more than a dashed off sketch of the Tormented Artist prone to staring at the keys, shouting at people who don t appreciate his genius and spending long sleepless nights looking at the ceiling. There s not much drama there. Nor in the direction of Jan Kounen, who despite having two such passionate modernists as his subjects, proceeds in a dully literal fashion. There s no fire here, no sense that this affair ever rose above nike free 5.0 sale the furtive demands of simple lust. Things pick up slightly at the end, when the composer s long suffering wife (Yelena Morozova, with the face of a peasant saint) comes to terms with her husband s infidelity. And, of course, the cheap nike free run shoes look and sound of the film is gorgeous throughout. Coco Chanel Igor Stravinsky offers passion View full sizeSony Pictures Among history s great tragic romances, the one between Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky probably ranks somewhere below Prince Charles and Lady Di but above Jon and Kate Gosselin. The imperious, self made fashion designer and the Russian nike free run kids composer seem to have had a genuinely passionate, star cross d affair, but, at least judging from the unimaginatively titled film "Coco Chanel Igor Stravinsky," little about their relationship was all that distinctive. The most fascinating section of this overlong air max 180 movie is its opening, which re creates the famous, riot provoking 1913 premiere of Stravinsky s "The Rite of Spring." Chanel (Anna Mouglalis), in attendance, meets Stravinsky (Mads Mikkelsen) and is impressed enough to offer womens nike free run him and his family her summer home after Stravinsky becomes a post Revolutionary refugee in 1920. She claims nike free run 4.0 v3 it s just because she admires his music, but soon the pair are engaging in their own springtime rites, which nike free run womens uk Stravinsky s wife and amanuensis grudgingly tolerates. Unfortunately, neither of these fascinating artistic giants is given much of a personality, Chanel in particular remaining a cipher whose remarkable life story is only alluded to by the script.

The fashions are almost inevitably flawless and chic. The performances are well modulated to project exactly what the director, Jan Kounen, wants to say about these two people. He depends on performance because neither is given to self analysis or revelation, and most of their meetings are in some way negotiations." Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun Times

Coco Chanel surprisingly unsexy He was busy with The Rite of Spring and she was busy concocting her most famous perfume, but somewhere in there Igor Stravinsky and Coco Chanel found the time to have a passionate pink nike air max affair. Sadly, you may not care. Coco Chanel Igor Stravinsky is a film account of that relationship, a story based on the book about the designer and the composer by Chris Greenhalgh. As Stravinsky, Mads Mikkelsen is suitably moody and misunderstood, but Anna Mouglalis never quite makes Chanel flesh and blood here. The movie nike free 2.0 goes out of its way to get all the Chanel trappings and artifacts correct, but that attention to detail ends up being a distraction, not an enhancement. You re watching a love affair between a man and an icon. The movie starts out with a tremendous rush: a recreation of the nike free 5.0 2014 chaotic 1913 performance in Paris of Stravinsky s Rite of Spring, an event that had concert goers and gendarmes duking it out over the then controversial music and ballet. It s the future! Chanel is there, and she s impressed. The story fast forwards several years. nike free uk Chanel is now famous and Stravinsky has changed his address thanks to the Russian revolution. He is living in France with his sick wife and four children. When he and Chanel meet, sparks fly, and before too long she has invited him and his family to stay at her villa outside Paris. He ll be able to work, his wife will be able to recover her health, their children will frolic in the countryside, etc. That s the thinking that puts the composer and the designer under the same roof. They begin an affair. "Your work has more passion," says Stravinsky s long suffering wife. Pointedly. Stravinsky s wife (Yelena Morozova) is presented here as the person who keeps his life and work together. She is an understated but crucial presence, and Morozova s wonderful performance makes her seem a more complex and interesting person than Chanel was. Is that what the filmmakers intended? As Chanel, Mouglalis is chilly, demanding and successful; this may well capture the designer s general aura, but it would have been nice to have seen what it was about Coco Chanel that Stravinsky found so irresistible. Here, she s just a study in perfect black and white and long pearls. (Sadly, during the love making scenes, looking at the duplicates of Chanel s actual bedding and furniture is rather more interesting than watching the fake sex. Not a good sign.) Coco Chanel Igor Stravinsky is attractive as a bit of history and it s generally pretty to look at, but it s never engaging in a way that lets you forget you re watching a movie. She s imperious. He s tortured. new nike free The lovers are often silent in each other s presence and there s a lot of off hand yearning going on; still, it doesn t seem to be going anywhere. The story eventually flashes forward in time to show Chanel and Stravinsky in old age, each but a footnote in the other s life. Was theirs a love story? A romantic folly? Just star nookie on both sides? What it all means remains a mystery.
